Ultrasound

Your GP or referring doctor will often arrange a scan or test at one of our specialist non-invasive vascular ultrasound laboratories before you see Dr Victor Bourke or Dr Bernard Bourke.

Common non-invasive tests include:

1. Leg ultrasound for varicose veins: this test helps identify the cause for your varicose veins and directs the appropriate treatment.
2. Treadmill test: in this test our sonographer will check your blood flow to your legs during walking. This test is often performed for patients who suffer leg pain when they walk. You may then require further testing with an ultrasound.
3. Abdominal ultrasound: in this test our sonographer can look for narrowings, or “ballooning” of the arteries (known as an aneurysms).
4. Carotid ultrasound: this test looks at the neck arteries which supply blood to the brain.

Other tests performed include kidney artery ultrasounds, ultrasounds to check for DVT, or tests after surgical procedures to monitor stents, grafts or bypasses.

All scans are personally reported by Dr Victor Bourke or Dr Bernard Bourke and the results are sent to your referring doctor.

A follow-up consultation with either Dr Victor Bourke or Dr Bernard Bourke will be arranged according to the clinical situation.
